Curry is a mixture of spices, but also a category of foods cooked with this mixture. Each country, each cook, each food, can have its own proportions from a large list of ingredients. Also, its composition still depends on the caste, religion and customs of each place. The most basic ingredients found in most curries are turmeric, coriander, chili peppers, cloves, cardamom, tamarind, nutmeg, cumin, pepper and ginger. It should be noted that the term curry (as a mixture of ready-made spices) was introduced by the East India Company, when the Dutch and later the British standardized the mixture and began to trade it.
