Black Tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis bush, after the leaves have been oxidized. Through oxidation the leaves acquire a black color. Producers are able to regulate the intensity of oxidation. Black tea is a fully oxidized tea while green tea is derived from the same plant but is not exposed to oxidizing agents. Black tea is high in caffeine and is also a rich source of polyphenols, antioxidants that help protect cells from DNA damage.
